Dea Mehilli is a Canadian contemporary artist who has been publicly sharing her work since 2020. Her mixed-media practice explores the essence of creation through instinct, the natural world and abstract realism.

Her work is rooted in a fascination with the details of creation — the patterns, movement and quiet intricacies of the natural world that can so easily go unnoticed. For Mehilli, paying attention to these details becomes a way of looking beyond the surface and connecting to something higher.

Faith is an underlying presence throughout her practice. Creation is understood not only as something to observe, but as a reflection of God — and the act of creating as a way of participating in, responding to and honouring what has already been made.

Wildlife, organic forms and abstraction become a visual language for exploring presence, identity and instinct. Moving between the recognizable and the imagined, her process balances discipline with intuition, allowing each work to reveal itself rather than be entirely predetermined.

The result is work that invites a slower kind of looking — toward the details, toward creation and toward the deeper connections that exist within it.
